About the Pixie

About The Pixie, The Wonky Pixie, About Us, About Me, Wellington NZ

Why The Wonky Pixie you ask?

Have you ever walked through a forest to find the light play and the dappled light dancing through the trees, the reflections in the waters, the curled leaf on the forest floor, or the moss curling and blanketing a twig? Nature is rarely perfectly straight, so I love the wonky details you often see.

Forest to the sea, I create my works from the inspiration of nature. And I adore flowers. The simplicity and uniqueness of our natural world. This inspires me to create works of art that embody this. It is my connection and my story. I create from home in my 'studio' aka the spare room!

From a young age, I have been creating and telling stories of mythical adventures. I would always look for the wonkiest piece of wood or bark to use, and I would create my storytelling creations, often hidden among the trees. So now I handcraft from that notion. This is my connection, The forest dweller or water nymph, where I relax, soothe, and embrace. Where I connect with my soul and spirit. I forage and re-purpose as much as I can to recreate new, beautiful works.

My works are handcrafted by me, built and put together by me. A lot of the components (if not handmade) are sourced locally from other New Zealand businesses. Very occasionally, I will seek small accent items from outside of New Zealand if I cannot find them within New Zealand. I do not purchase from Temu.

As an artist, I am mainly self taught, although I did gain a fantastic diploma of Art and Creativity through The learning Connexion in Wellington, NZ. I would love to do more study through them, so perhaps I will :) I have exhibited in various art shows over the years, firstly in Australia when I lived there, both in group shows and my own solo show where I exhibited, photography, digital art, abstract paintings and poetry. My photographic work has also been published in an international faerie magazine and in various calendars, both in Australia and New Zealand. Here in New Zealand, when I moved back home, I have been honored to be involved in collaborative art shows through galleries, online publications, plus I also had the wonderful opportunity to exhibit some of my photography in The NZ Art Show a number of times.

I have also been published with my poetry both online and in print form here in New Zealand and Australia. I am looking into maybe to gain more study in creative writing in the hope of writing some more personal projects - watch this space!

I also do not use AI imagery at all in my creations. Some other imagery I use in my works are my own original art, or my own photography, and then additionally using Photoshop. Sometimes I create other works using non AI art from a lovely Polish artist who creates her own collage art books that I have purchased and that she allows other creators to use.

My art journey is a unique part of the deepened soul and fire within me, and with using my hands to benefit from that therapy of creating, but also to bring some magic into the world.

To bring a smile to a distant soul.

I am also graced to be a mum to one imaginative, beautifully kind hearted nearly 18-year old (how time flies!!!) lad who inspires me every single day, the wonder in his face and his own imagination that spark many a story. He has, in the past, given me many of the names of things or the choice of colours.

The art, my art, and self-expression through storytelling and my works are why I do it, to share this journey with you.

To hopefully spark inspiration.

To see the world in a different light or angle.

To remind us all, that the little things in life are often so remarkably beautiful - just as they are.

To share the wonky. To share the me.

So thank you.

Thank you for choosing to embark on this path with me, and thank you for reading.

Blessings and twinkles.

Pixie.
